About the Studio

When I was a little girl, I learned to sew from my Grandma Peggie. Her sewing machine lived in her Florida room, right where the sunshine liked to hang out and the windows wore lace like they were dressed for Sunday dinner. As far back as I can remember, we’d be there together, stitching away while Golden Girls, Designing Women, or Days of Our Lives played softly in the background.

Grandma was always prim and proper, as ladylike as anyone you’d ever meet, and she honestly believed she did no wrong. We used to tease her, telling her she thought she was perfect. She’d answer with a quiet giggle, a gentle batting of her eyes, proud in that graceful, feminine way of hers, and say, “Pert near perfect.”

Some people go through life collecting things. I collected moments like that. Sunshine on fabric. Lace curtains moving just enough to notice. The steady hum of the sewing machine and the comfort of sitting beside someone who knew exactly who she was.

The skill Grandma gave me stayed with me over the years. Sewing was something I always came back to, learning as I went and finding my way through fabric and thread. Over time, that led me to memory quilts, where the materials already carried stories worth preserving.

When the idea for this business began to take shape, I spent days thinking about the name. I wanted something honest and steady, something that didn’t try to be more than it was. Then, out of nowhere, Pert Near Perfect came to mind, as if someone had whispered it gently. It sounded just like Grandma.

My seams may not always be perfect, but they’re pert near. And that feels like a pretty good way to describe life. None of us are flawless. Life rarely lines up the way we imagine. We have seasons we’re proud of and seasons that stretch us. We learn to gather the pieces that matter and stitch them together with intention and care.

That’s what pert near perfect means to me. Not that everything looks tidy on the outside, but that we keep showing up. We love deeply. We do our best with what we’ve been given. And we find beauty in the everyday moments that might otherwise slip by.

Naming this business Pert Near Perfect Collective feels like sitting right back beside Grandma at that old sewing machine. Sunshine on the fabric, a soft giggle in the air, and the quiet comfort of creating something meaningful.

It feels like home.

Pert Near Perfect Collective is a small creative world built on memory and hope, and on the belief that things nearly perfect can be the most beautiful of all. It’s about honoring what was, cherishing what is, and creating something lasting from the stories we hold dear.

A place where stories keep collecting, one piece at a time.
